Hailed by Time as 'one of the top 10 bands on the planet,' the pop Madagascar group Tarika has created a 10-year retrospective with Tarika:10. Without succumbing to the temptations of electronic and crossover music, Tarika has successfully paid tribute to the language and traditions of the groups homeland, bringing worldwide attention to the tiny Indian Ocean island.
What makes Tarika especially striking is its talented female leads, sisters Hanitra Rasoanaivo and Noro Rahaimalala. These prolific musicians bring the stories of Madagascars political and social challenges and victories to their audience. Tarikas instrumentation also evokes a colorful, passionate culture. Songs such as 'Koba' - a commonplace pastry made of rice flour, peanuts, and honey - have made the Madagascar way of life better known. Fifteen music tracks are included in the collection, with two bonus Enhanced CD video tracks.
Tarikas music is powerful, beautiful, and compelling. Play Tarika:10 to inspire customers. - Mara Applebaum NewAgeRetailer - 09/04
Tarika 10: Beats, Ghosts and Dancing With History is a ten-year retrospective of one the most important bands in Afropop. This Enhanced CD features 15 tracks from the past decade including rare and previously unreleased remixes and tracks, a live performance from the WOMAD festival and two gorgeous video tracks from the Soul Makassar (Triloka - TRICD82031-2) CD
Hailing from Madagascar, Tarika, led by Hanitra Rasoanaivo (pronounced Anch), has developed a huge international following with their unique, modern blend of the roots music styles from their homeland.
