Description:

Following the worldwide success and popularity of Call of Krishna, Rakesh Chaurasia showcases Raag Hansdhwani in this follow up album. Classical Indian music is probably the most complex musical system in the world with a very highly developed melodic and rhythmic structure. Accompanied by Pandit Bhavani Shankar on the Pakhawaj and Satyajit Talwalkar on the Tabla, Rakesh Chaurasia plays the bright and lively South Indian raag Hansdhwani, also known as “Hamsadwani”.

In South India, the musicians usually begin a performance with this immensely popular raag. However, until fairly late in the last century, it was rarely performed in the North though this sprightly raag has now become equally popular there as well. The relative simplicity of ascent and descent of this raag allows a musician ample freedom to improvise. In this album, as is the traditional custom, Rakesh begins with an Alap, serenely unfolding and developing the raag, followed by Jod with the accompaniment of the majestic Pakhawaj of Bhavani Shankar.

Accompanied by the tabla maestro Satyajit Talwalkar, Jod is followed by Gat in Teen Taal (16 Beats) and is based on the immortal composition “Ja Tose Nahin Bolun Kanhaiya…” made famous by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar in the 60’s film Pariwar. The performance ends in Drut Teen Taal with all three players expertly showcasing their craft.

In this blissful yet very enervating and effervescent performance, the bamboo flute of Rakesh journeys through Krishna’s garden of magic and mischief, the ultimate Garden of Eden. A true delight for all music lovers and sublime bliss for all listeners.
