This musical project was born to visualise the bridges that exist between different ways of living and believing. The musicians usually sit down and jam after talks over dinner about ethical, philosophical and spiritual themes. The musical pieces, which arise organically, are very strong in expression and enable the listener to sense the themes behind them. Music as a spiritual expression does not deliver definitions. Therefore, it is a versatile medium for understanding each other and differing cultures. In today's political world this seems to be particularly necessary in the area of relations between Christians and Muslims. This area is addressed in the CD booklet. Within it there are quotations from the Bible and the Quran for each track in order to make the thoughts of the musicians more transparent to the listener and to show commonality in both religions.
Comparisons with Pink Floyd or Herbie Hancock...
Preliminary publications of individual tracks (Information Politics, Can you see…? and China Sunrise) on musicians' websites have received very good feedback. There have been comparisons with big names in music and an appreciation of the high musical quality. The pieces are living on improvisation and emotional expression, the obvious areas of world music are avoided. The focus is on authenticity of emotion coming from the personal background of each band-member.
Coming from a background of a twelve year co-operation in song-writing and music-production involving English and German musicians this Jazz-project is growing and moving towards a position in which improvised music can express more than the musicians themselves could have expected.
These musicians forget about everything when they are playing. Derek Crehan plays a passionate guitar from Blues to Jazz while Gunter Hauser`s free piano style pushes the emotions. Richard Evans on drums sensitively holds the pieces together and the soft trombone of Paul Douglas puts roots into the earth, which is absolutely necessary when the haunting vocals of Leyla Tugal on Can you see...? are taking you up and away.
