Here’s a new techno/tribal/ambient supergroup, as legendary space music composer Steve Roach teams up with Stephen Kent and Kenneth Newby of Trance Mission.
Halcyon Days is their first collaboration, a meeting of the minds fueled by a natural affinity for psychoactive sounds.
With two world-class didgeridoo players in the studio, it’s no surprise that this Australian tree trumpet has a major role, as Kent’s earthy rhythms and animistic cries make the music come vibrantly alive. Add Roach and Newby’s electronic textures, Newby’s array of exotic Indonesian instruments, massive doses of trancey percussion and monster drones and you have a hybrid of ancient and contemporary sources from aboriginal to electronic.
Biography:
Steve Roach is recognized worldwide as one of the leading innovators in contemporary electronic music. His range of musical expression runs the gamut from the introspective soundscapes of Structures from Silence and Quiet Music (Complete Edition) to the explosive sequencer music of Empetus. Roach masterfully combined these two aspects of his style on the double album Dreamtime Return , considered by many critics to be a landmark in the new music genre.
