Reviews:

This is an aptly titled solo release from this core member of Tri Atma. On 'Mad Material' Jens Fischer lets his hair down and spreads his wings with some wild and funky playing, tempered by his considerable compositional skills. A progressive New Age-Rock fusion at its wildest, combining virtuoso chops with pioneering excursions.' - (Horst Stasiak, Haertbeats, Fall '89)

'Listening to music means seeing with the eyes of your soul.' - (Sun Ra)

Description:

In the beginning was the groove. Jens Fischer's 'Mad Material' is a ticket for a trip into fascinatingly singular sensory worlds which anybody can take, provided he is keen and curious enough to leave the single-tracked and rigid elements of tried and trusted music routes. Music theory contemplations about the influences and musical symbiosis of world cultures are superfluous. Jens Fischer takes what he needs, expresses what he feels and paints the tone pictures which are inside him. He is a musician possessing the profoundness to make excursions into what are for him interesting regions in order to practise his craft in a superior and virtuoso style with all musicial registers. What characterises the production is that the musical and thus also the associative freedom is flanked by two supporting pillars: the rhythm, which both grounds and at the same time also carries forward each piece, making some of them suitable for dancing and naturally the guitar, which constantly spreads its wings over the whole-real, true and full of energy. The guitar, the instrument from which composer Jens Fischer comes and to which he will also return. 'I'm A Man', one of the most exciting cover-versions, shows that the exacting demands and the dance groove do not exclude each other. Jens Fischer's goal is obscure in a refreshing way. All that is clear is that we are permitted to take part in this journey and what the leitmotif is on his path: harmony. But not at any price.
