In part, the composition uses antiphon and refrain. Latin is the unifying element. Old choral motifs and Bruckner motifs can be heard. The arrangement of the voices has strictly adhered to the liturgical rules for Cantor, Choir and people attending the Mass. (Walter Karlberger)
Description:
During the last two hundred years, church music and secular music have been enemies. We must be reminded that great composers of church music such as Mozart, Haydn, Bach and Schubert also composed dance music and music for entertainment. For them church music and secular music were not separate forms. I have been active in the field of music for years and have reached two conclusions. First, for young people, modern religious music provides a bridge to God. Also, many creative composers feel a need from time to time to include an expression of their religious feelings in their musical repertoire. The rock group Eela Craig has attempted a Rock Mass. They have asked me to assist them with the text. As I worked with them it became clear to me that this Mass would be a composition reaching beyond the realise of 'every-day' rock. I also saw the opportunity to realize a project of my own, a High Mass, in strict liturgical form, in several languages, with electronic and rock instrumental music. The text of the Mass includes all parts of the ordinary and in all four languages, Latin, German, English and French, the official prescribed text has been used.
