Golaná's music uplifts, inspires and expresses a reverence for the Earth and all of humanity. Golaná, whose name means Raven, is of Cherokee descent. He calls himself a rock sitter and composes while hes out in nature in such pristine settings as the Sierras, Joshua Tree and Sedona.
The natural world has always been a big part of my life. I always loved the outdoors says Golaná (a.k.a Scott Cunningham). In the late 80s, I moved from the ocean to a house on four acres of land and began my mountain and desert phase. About this time, I began exploring my Native American roots.
I took wilderness and nature classes and spent long hours alone in the outdoors but didnt really find myself until I picked up the flute.
When I connected to the Creative Spirit, music poured through me evoking some long-forgotten memories. It was as though I became one with my instrument and the flute became my voice.
Golaná's solo play focuses on the therapeutic and restorative powers of Native American flute music.
When I sit quietly in nature something magical happens, and when I ask the Creator to play through me, soothing melodies flow forth and I'm filled with a sense of peace.
Golaná is a member of the Bear River Band of the Southern Cherokee Nation, and a gifted composer and interpreter of the Native American and contemporary flute.
