The sweet, lyrical melodies of Petals in the Stream float through the air as gracefully as flower petals float down a gentle brook on a warm spring day. This music is enticing, relaxing and spiritually uplifting. Long–time friends and musical associates, David Michael and Randy Mead, combine their talents on a variety of instruments, both old and new. Michael plays Celtic harp zithers, bowed psaltery and a unique instrument he invented and built, the zith–harp. Mead adds his skills on flutes, recorders and synthesizer. In addition, for Petals in the Stream, Michael and Mead brought in half a dozen other talented artists to add the richness of voice, violin, cello and exotic instruments like the baya and sarod. The music they create combines elements of Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionist, Oriental and Irish traditions. The richness of many cultures blend as beautifully as a bouquet of spring flowers, each blossom contributing its own color, shape and scent. The symbiosis between Michael and Mead allows them to add improvisations to their carefully composed prices. This finely tuned sixth sense brings a spontaneity and freshness to their work. These gently rippling melodies are a refreshing respite for listeners, as restorative as a relaxing afternoon watching the peaceful drifting of Petals in the Stream.
