Description:
Yoga has been practiced for centuries, combining both physical and meditative practice to produce a balanced state of being. Music and chant have been an integral part of the yogic journey since its ancient beginnings, helping the practitioner to focus energy and release tension. This two CD set of Indian chants, songs and ambient soundscapes create the perfect environment for the practice of yoga, exercise, contemplation and relaxation. The first CD in the Planet Yoga set is designed as an accompaniment to physical yoga and exercise. It features the most renowned proponents of the Bhakti or devotional yoga genre along side new up and coming performers, including Krishna Das, (who graces the collection with the previously unreleased track 'Prayer To Rudra'), Jai Uttal, Bhagavan Das, Wah!, Dave Stringer (joined in a soulful duet by Azam Ali of the group Vas) and Deva Premal. The second CD is designed to enhance relaxation and meditative practices by presenting an ambient soundscape to create a space that engenders a vibration of peace. The pieces in this collection feature Benjy Wertheimer and his ancient evocative Indian esraj (bowed string instrument) and Drala, a new group featuring renowned bansuri (Indian bamboo flute) player Steve Gorn. Also included is a track from maestro Ali Akbar Khan who has been hailed as one of the greatest living musicians of our time.
