This excellently eccentric Rough Guide is a whistle-stop tour of wild world music. The majority of music here is previously un-released, so you won't hear this anywhere else, and it's not worth missing. Enjoy everything from a trio of Romanian harmonica enthusiasts to a Zimbabwean-Brazilian jazz project, and more.
A new sound for a rising global consciousness. The Ganda Boys take their responsibility even further with their humanitarian work, the Ganda Foundation, which has been bringing new and desperately needed hospital equipment into Uganda and materials for schools. The Ganda Boys are founders and organisers for the Foundation's activities, which include fund raising concerts in Europe, media campaigns and social networking - tied in with creating documentary films on the Foundation's work and challenges - bringing First World awareness to the dire conditions that exist in much of the Third World. All the tracks featured here were entered into World Music Network's innovative 'Battle of the Bands' competition. Via their online forum artists from all over the globe can visit our website, upload a track and drive support via social media platforms. The winning tracks are featured on this compilation, and considered for other World Music Network projects. This unique approach promotes contemporary world music straight from the source.
Highlights featured on The Rough Guide To Undiscovered World include Chlopcy Kontra Basia, a Polish folk-jazz band composed of female lead singer and clarinettist Basia and a two-part male rhythm section. 'Hondo' by Monoswezi seamlessly marries Scandinavian jazz and minimalism with traditional music from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. 'Sithi Shwele' is by the ninety-strong Choir Invisible, personal choir of Desmond Tutu in the United Kingdom. The mighty Krar Collective have a forthcoming album on World Music Network's Riverboat Records label, and are heard here on the stomping track, 'Guragigna'. Amadou Diagne, a previous winner who has recently released a full length solo album with World Music Network, is also heard on the gentle guitar led track, 'Diamano'. 'Thirty Years' by Shanren fuses indigenous music from Yunnan, south-western China with indie rock, reggae and ska. The album is full of other diverse delights.
The Rough Guide to Undiscovered World is a single-disc budget price sampler.
