Reviews:

Sacred Treasures IV: Choral Masterworks - Quiet Prayers is the fourth recording in the popular Hearts of Space choral series. As inferred by the subtitle Quiet Prayers, it is correct to assume this is the most tender and calming of the series to date. Except for an occasional pipe organ, violin, and piano playing faintly in the background, most are a cappella performances by some of the world’s finest mixed choral groups singing works by composers including Arvo Pärt, Gabriel Fauré, and Morten Lauridsen.

Producer Ellen Holmes carefully chose the sequence of twelve tracks, sculpting the entire work into its own requiem.

Commencing the work is Pärt’s powerful “O Weisheit,” displaying the incredible sonic resonance of the Scandinavian stone church it was recorded in. From 20th century Frenchman Fauré are two classics: “In Paradisum” from his famous Requiem and the lesser known “Benedictus” from Messe Basse.

Sacred Treasures IV ends with two nonvocal instrumental and organ pieces, slowly flickering out like a dying candle. With today’s ambient and electronica technology often overthinking the music, there still is nothing more peaceful than the stripped-down purity of the human voice. - Peter Manzi; New Age Retailer, Fall 2006
