San is an affirmation of Deuter's pan–cultural musical vision. Linking elements of Western musical traditions with the spirituality of Eastern musical traditions, Deuter uses a broad range of instruments and sound from all over the world to communicate an experience of life through music. Deuter explains, the message in the music is light. Light as opposed to heavy and light as opposed to darkness. The music is derived from an understanding that life is a gift and from an acceptance of the miracle that all things exist.' Deuter has demonstrated from the start an unusual sensitivity to the possibilities of sound. With the ability to combine diverse sounds into a satisfying whole, he has managed to incorporate rhythms, musical influences and natural sounds that gently persuade acceptance of all things. San is a perfect example of this pioneering spirit.'
Deuter is the seminal New Age musician, active for over 30 years! Also a Reiki practitioner, Deuter lives and works in the mountains of Santa Fe, NM, creating the contemplative, healing music he has become renowned for. Through feeling, awareness and experience, and constantly inspired by the natural world around him, he creates music that transports the listener to a space of peacefulness and wellbeing. He continues to earn and master an ever-expanding array of instruments including the drums, shakuhachi, cello, koto, sitar, Tibetan singing bowls, santoor, buzuki, and keyboards.
Deuter was one of the first artists on the Celestial Harmonies Kuckuck label with thirteen titles, as well as the musical score of a picture poem released on the MonteVideo label. These recordings offer his unique uplifting melodies played on flute, guitar and synthesizer, blended with the sounds of nature. His creations incorporate a lightness of spirit, a depth of vision and a musical medley of East and West.
Deuter himself is a product of both East and West, born in 1945, in a small village of post-war Germany. As a child, he learned flute and taught himself guitar and harmonica. Together, these Kuckuck releases represent the first twenty-one years of Deuter's exceptional music, a spectrum of radiant outpourings and quiet meditations.
