The connoisseur associates the name Gabriel Fauré (France 1845-1924) with a very intimate and dreamy music composed of noble, catchy melodies in combination with delicate harmonies. Above all, Fauré's lyrical temperament found its form of expression in chamber music and in songs. He set poems to music from poets of the 'fin de siècle', mostly from Verlaine, which include delicate tributes to love, natural moods and erotic dreams. The inherent musical character of the songs produced on the CD 'Secret Garden' have now been revealed using purely instrumental arrangements. The title 'Secret Garden' protrays Fauré's attempt to draw the listener to surreal, dreamy realms by setting particular themes to music. One is repeatedly reminded of a secret, hermetic garden (a collection of songs carries the title 'Le jardin clos'), an idyll, a place for ecstasy. Hans-André Stamm used the flute as a solo instrument in his arrangements and even the recorder for a few titles. The harp was almost always preferred for accompanying the music instead of the original piano, which is musically related because Fauré mostly used harp type configurations for his piano pieces. Oboe, solo violin, an Irish harp with metal strings take on melodically collateral lines.
Hans-André Stamm is an organist and gave his first solo concert in Notre Dáme in Paris at 16 years of age. He studied artistic organ playing at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Luettich, and, in addition, catholic church music, instrumental pedagogic and piano at the Robert-Schumann University in Düsseldorf. Instruments: Violins, Flutes, Oboe, and Harp.
