Classical relaxing inspiring guitar music. I have aimed at creating an atmosphere of peace and joy of life on this album which mainly contains romantic guitar music by Spanish and South American composers, as well as music which is widely different from this genre, for example J. S. Bach 'Sicilliano' and Andante Graziso', the theme from Mozart's piano sonata K331.
Over the years the guitar and similar stringed instruments have often proved to be endowed with soothing and healing qualities. One example of how this music can be used for relaxation dates back to the 17th century when, on special occasions, the Danish king Christian the IV had the English lute virtuoso, John Dowland, play for him at bedtime.
Modern culture has now accepted the guitar as a concert instrument, despite the fact that well into the 20th century it was not regarded as a proper instrument for classical music but rather an instrument suitable for popular music. Today it embraces popular music as well as the world of classical music in which it has now gained recognition. Thanks to great masters such as Francisco Tarrega (1852-1909) and Andres Segovia (1893-1987) we have now learned to acknowledge the guitar because these masters did so much to extend peoples knowledge of this instrument, for instance through a large number of compositions and arrangements for the guitar. Furthermore, Andres Segovia was one of the first guitarplayers to have his recordings published on records throughout the world, thereby contributing to a more thorough knowledge of and a deeper interest in the guitar.
