Description:
'Silent Beauty' is the title for a music of probably the most renowned contemporary musicians of South Africa: the Malombo group round its founder, composer and guitarist Philip Tabane, with its colleagues Oupa Mahapi Monareng and Raymond Mpuny Motau. During his 15-year period of artistic work, which brought them together with, among others, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus and Stevie Wonder, the name Tabane developed into a cult symbol which has long since stood for more than just music: for the present-day struggle for musical and cultural identity in the tension-laden athmosphere of alienation, changing culture, tradition, modern life, adaption and resistance.
