'Nakai's powerful, haunting flute work and his deep vocalizations go together with the stirring piano sounds of Kater, making for a magical fusion from these two musicians who produce soul-stirring sounds as masters of their instruments.' - Nexus Magazine
Celebrating the visionary collaboration between Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and German born pianist Peter Kater, this anniversary collection brings together eleven favorite performances from previous albums with two new songs created expressly for this recording.
The soulful sounds of Nakai's flutes, chants, and eagle bone whistle are masterfully woven through the lush and eloquent musical pathways created by Kater's piano and compositions. Together their music is ceremony, praise and celebration - A Song for Humanity.
R. Carlos Nakai has explored and developed the relationship between established and new musical ideas for the Native American wooden flute. Classically trained on the trumpet, Nakai has nevertheless always been involved in the music and culture of his Navajo people. He has become accomplished on the siyotanka, the Lakota name for the wooden flute. Nakai has studied and lived with many different Native American tribes, adapting their musical traditions to his own style. He represented the Native Americans at the Magic Flute Festival in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has performed at galleries, schools, museums and festivals. A visual artist and teacher, Nakai works with the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
