The biblical love poem, 'Song of Songs' (alternatively known as 'Song of Solomon' or 'Canticle of Canticles'), provides the inspiration for this collaboration between violinist Lorenza Ponce and pianist Ben Zebeiman. Commonly divided into eight chapters of verse, the poem celebrates the erotic relationship between two young lovers. The verses, which are included both as part of the scriptures to the Old Testament, and after the book of Ecclesiastes in early Christian versons of the bible, have been the source of ongoing controversy for secular and religious interpreters alike. Based on an elegant new translation, 'Song of Songs' alternates spoken sections with musical interludes composed by Ponce and Zebelman for a distinctly powerful rendering of this unabashed celebration of erotic love.
