Biography:
Majbritte Ulrikkeholm is often referred to as 'one of our most important artists' on the pages of Danish newspapers. In 1998 the Danish Ministry of Cultural Affairs honored Majbritte Ulrikkeholm with a full scholarship for three years in recognition of her work as a singer and composer.
Already as a child she started appearing on stage with her sisters, and later on she began writing her own songs. Already then her songs were about spiritual matters, this came natural to her because she grew up in a religious family where art and miracles were as natural a part of life as eating and drinking. While growing up she became familiar with Afro-American gospel music and sang in various churches, so even if she has developed her own personal style, you can still hear traces of gospel and blues in her voice. Majbritte Ulrikkeholm's voice is well known to many Danes as the voice that expresses their own sorrows and joys in song, a voice that sings of their hope and brings life to their spirituality.
Majbritte Ulrikkeholm does not limit her songs to any specific religion. She sings about a universal kind of spirituality that may be contained in the heart of music and shared across religious barriers. During the past ten years she has given concerts in churches and concert halls, in meeting houses and libraries, on television and on the radio expressing universal spirituality while singing her own songs. Majbritte Ulrikkeholm has often performed accompanied by strings, as she has appeared as a soloist with The Danish Radio Entertainment Orchestra on several occasions.
In 1997 Majbritte Ulrikkeholm wrote a book about her childhood and her life as a singer, and doing so she invented a new style of writing, mixing facts and fairytales. She became a very successful writer, and she wrote several books in her new style: My Heavens, Maria's Miracle, Back to Earth, and The Magical Dimension - a Guide to Creativity and Transformation. At the age of 39 Majbritte Ulrikkeholm has published a total of four books and released seven CDs with her own music.
