'...transports the listener into a primal world of awe and magic, inviting us into the spiritual wonderland of the Dreamtime.' - Backroads
Tom Wasinger and Jim Harvey recorded the didjeridu, voice, nature sounds and aboriginal singing, then mixed these field recordings with many unusual sampled sounds.
This hauntingly original piece captures the sounds of Australia and frames them in musical influences from around the globe. 'Track to Bumbliwa is a musical journey across the continent of Australia. Tom and Jim's travels took them to Arnhemland in the Northern Territory and back to the rain forests north of Sydney. Recording in these places, sacred in Aborininal culture they sought to 'sing the land,' the songs of the caves, gorges, riverbeds and stars as they experienced them on their journey. The Aboriginal peoples of Australia have maintained the 'sacredness of place' for over 40,000 years by remembering to sing the songs and dance the rituals that keep the land, the law and the people one. Integral to these ritual enactments is the didjeridu, which tells the story of song lines in a non-verbal level.'
Track to Bumbliwa is a musical journey across the continent of Australia. Two musicians carrying didjeridus and digital recording equipment sought out the places that have inspired the music and ceremony of the Australian Aboriginals for 40,000 years. Their musical exploration of the oldest continent on Earth took them from the caves of the red central to the black soil country of the north and the rain forests of teh east coast.
This recording captures the sounds of Australia and frames them in musical influences from around the globe, creating a unique and animated world music dialog.
Didjeridu is the traditional wind instrument of Aboriginal Australia made from tree limbs hollowed by the activity of white ants and termites. It is primitive in the sense of being a non-manufactured 'found instrument', yet sublime in its tonal colors and expressiveness. Didjeridu is a unique, distinctive and hauntingly familiar voice that resonates within our bodies speaking the wisdom, visions and dreams of the world's oldest indigenous culture.
Tom Wasinger is a composer and multi-instrumentalist acclaimed for his work with resonating stones on his album Rock Music. His home is in Boulder, Colorado.
