On Wanderer, the second CD from M Path - a collective that on this outing features master bansuri flute player Steve Gorn, Benji Werthiemer, one of the very few musicians in the west to play the rare and ancient esraj, tabla player extraordinaire and Zakir Hussain protégé Ty Burhoe, the indefatigable violinist Lili Haydn, Eric Zang, creator of a fascinating altered 4-foot long ney that produces a kind of baritone flute sound and guest vocalist Asha Puthli (an Indian ex-pat who became a singing sensation in Italy) - takes the listener on a mysterious and exotic musical journey. In addition, Gardner's collection of field recordings of Qawalli, Punjabi and Hindu folk songs also played a seminal role in the musical adventure.
Biography:
M Path is the brainchild of producers Gardner Cole and Mitchell Markus. The music is a mystical blend of traditional Indian music fused with pop and funk sensibilities. Cole is a musician, songwriter and producer who has composed songs and performed with virtually everyone from Madonna to the Jacksons. Markus is the president of Karuna Music/Triloka Records and has been involved in producing world beat albums from the beginning of the format and most recently as co-producer of Tulku.
