'Moving from traditional folk, via classical onto rock music the first section of the album, is certainly a hard to pin down concoction. The latter 27 minutes encompasses Turkish folk music, Indian traditional music and onto celestial new-age with gently sung whispered chanting.' - (Audion 19/91)
From a very early age Elka was acquainted with Bulgarian folk music through her father, one of the best known players of the gadulka (fiddle). She grew up among many types of instruments and a little later concentrated on the violin, becoming shortly afterwards a prize-winning child prodigy. At the age of fourteen she broke out of the classical music corset, wandered through the villages and played at weddings. It was there that she met her partner, the young Turkish-Bulgarian thamboura virtuoso Atechan Teofikov Usseinov. Together with him she developed a new music style, which is unique for its expressiveness and inner diversity.
